About Printwright
Printwright publishes free, hands-on printer fixes that you carry out yourself. No calls, no remote access, nothing to buy.
What we do
Printwright is an independent reference for people whose printer has stopped cooperating. We publish 43 step-by-step fixes, plain-English explanations of 21 error codes and messages, 15 how-to guides, notes on 10 printer brands and four printer types, and a few small tools that run in your browser.
Every page is written to be followed with the printer in front of you: the most likely fix first, exact on-screen labels, separate steps for Windows, Mac, Chromebook, phones and the printer itself, and a clear line where do-it-yourself stops and a repair begins.
Why it exists
Search for almost any printer problem and you’ll find pages that want you to call a number or let a stranger connect to your computer. Many of them are scams, and they target people at exactly the moment they’re frustrated. We think the honest answer should be easier to find: most printer problems can be fixed by the owner in a few minutes, for free, with the right steps.
If the guides don’t cover your situation, ask us with the chat button at the bottom of every page. We’ll never ask you to call a number, pay for help or let anyone connect to your computer: that’s how the scams we warn against work.
Who runs it
Printwright is an independent publication. You can reach the people who run it at hello@printwright.info.
We are not a printer manufacturer, a retailer or a repair shop, and we’re not affiliated with any of them. Brand names on this site identify the printers a page applies to and belong to their owners.
How it’s paid for
Today Printwright carries no advertising and earns nothing from the pages you read. If that changes, ads will be clearly labelled and kept away from the steps, and we’ll say so on our advertising and funding page before they appear.
How we write and check fixes
Each fix starts from the symptoms and messages people actually see, is checked against current versions of Windows and macOS and the manufacturers’ published manuals, and is dated with the day it was last checked. Our full method, and how we handle corrections, is on How we write fixes.
