What information Printwright collects when you visit, why, how long we keep it, and your rights.
The short version
- You don’t need an account, and we never ask for payment details. If you chat with us or email us, we receive only what you choose to send.
- Live chat is provided by Tidio. It loads when you click the chat button, or on every page if you allow “Live chat” in Cookie settings.
- Your theme, checklist progress and “did this fix it?” answers are stored only in your own browser.
- We don’t use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.
- We don’t sell your personal information.
Who is responsible
Printwright is an independent publication. You can reach the people who run it at hello@printwright.info. The publisher of this site is the controller of personal information processed through it. For any privacy question or request, email privacy@printwright.info.
What we collect
When you browse
Like every website, our hosting provider’s servers receive technical information when your browser requests a page: your IP address, the page requested, the date and time, your browser and operating system (the “user agent”) and the referring page. This is used to deliver pages, keep the site secure and diagnose faults, and server logs are deleted automatically within 30 days unless needed to investigate abuse.
Stored only on your device
We use your browser’s local storage to remember your light or dark theme, which steps you’ve ticked on a fix, your answer to “Did this fix it?”, your cookie choice, whether you’ve used chat. This information never leaves your device and isn’t sent to us. You can clear it at any time in your browser settings.
When you email us
If you write to us, we receive your email address, your message and anything you attach. We use it only to reply and to improve the site (for example, fixing a page you reported), and we keep it for up to 24 months unless you ask us to delete it sooner.
When you use live chat
Live chat is provided by Tidio (Tidio LLC). The chat software loads when you click a chat button, or on every page if you allow “Live chat” in Cookie settings; until then, Tidio receives nothing from your visit. Once it loads, Tidio receives your IP address, browser and device details and the page you’re on, and stores an identifier in your browser so a conversation carries on as you move between pages. This site also remembers that you’ve used chat, so the conversation loads on later pages.
If you send a message, Tidio stores the conversation, and anything you choose to share in it such as your name or email address, on our behalf. We use it only to reply and to improve the site, and keep it for up to 24 months unless you ask us to delete it sooner. Please don’t share passwords, payment card details or other sensitive information in chat. Tidio privacy policy (opens in a new tab).
Tools on this site
The diagnose questions, test sheets and cost calculator run entirely in your browser. Nothing you choose or type in them is sent to us.
No analytics or advertising
We don’t currently use any analytics, advertising or social-media tracking. If we add any in future, they will load only with your consent, and this policy will be updated before they’re switched on.
Why we use it (legal bases)
Where data protection laws such as the GDPR or UK GDPR apply, we rely on: legitimate interests for server logs (running a secure, working website); your request when you email us or start a chat (so we can reply); and your consent for loading live chat on every page and for any analytics or advertising cookies, which you can withdraw at any time using “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page.
International transfers
Our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Where required, transfers rely on safeguards such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to its use, receive a copy in a portable format, and withdraw consent. To make a request, email privacy@printwright.info. We’ll respond within one month (or the period your local law requires) and won’t charge you. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
US state privacy rights. Residents of California and other states with comprehensive privacy laws can request to know, correct or delete personal information. We don’t sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We don’t use or disclose sensitive personal information. We honor Global Privacy Control signals as a request to opt out.
Children
This site is meant for a general audience and isn’t directed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email privacy@printwright.info and we’ll delete it.
Security
The site is served only over encrypted HTTPS connections. We keep the information we hold to a minimum and limit access to it. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect what we hold.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect. Significant changes, such as switching on analytics or advertising, will also be reflected in the cookie banner.
